Woodworm Prevention & Eradication Treatments
The presence of woodworm can be identified by:
- Tiny, round holes in the timber, quite like the holes found in a dart board
- A fine, powder-like dust around these holes
- Flaky edging to joists and floorboards
- Adult beetles seen around the house or coming out of holes in the woodwork
Even if there are no holes visible, the fine powder-like dust may be able to be seen from the base or the backs of old timbers or wooden furniture, which also implies active woodworm. On the other hand, seeing these tell-tale signs may not indicate that you do have a woodworm problem, as these signs of dust and holes might only point towards an earlier infestation, but is now dormant.
Our fully trained surveyors will perform a complete inspection of your property and furniture, to ensure that the presence of active woodworm. Once we have correctly identified the type of woodworm infesting your property, we will prepare a necessary course of treatment to eradicate the woodworm and prevent future infestations.
There are a number of different treatments, depending on which beetle is there, and the correct treatment must be applied in order to rid you of them. We do not use sulphuryl fluoride; lindane; pentachlorophenol PCP) nor tributilyn oxide (TBTO) which can all potentially create ongoing medical problems.
The preferred method Larklands Preservation apply to rid timber of active woodworm is the use of the latest 'green' insecticides, allowing the you, the occupiers, access back to the property after a short a time as one hour after the completion of the treatment. Where floor timbers are involved, it will be necessary to lift the floorboards to allow our fully trained and qualified operatives access to underneath the floorboards and the core flooring joists.
If infestations by the Death Watch Beetle are found, all treatments for this insect will be governed by the findings of our surveyor at the time the inspection was made; and the use of a deep kill timber paste will mostly be made.
